JEDC promises faster transformer repairs, prepaid meter rollout in Gombe

The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) has pledged improved service delivery to residents of Gombe State, including faster transformer repairs and the start of prepaid meter installations from September 2025.
Rilwan Shehu, State Operating Officer of JEDC, made the commitment during a Customer Consultative Forum in Gombe. He explained that the forum was designed to engage customers directly, listen to their concerns, and provide timely solutions.
Addressing the recurring issue of faulty transformers, Shehu affirmed that repairs are the responsibility of JEDC while encouraging customers to pay their bills promptly. “Once they pay, we’ll be motivated to complete the repairs they expect from us in a timely manner,” he said.
He revealed that the metering exercise will begin with Band A customers, who currently enjoy up to 24 hours of power supply, before extending to other categories. “We are the first in the country taking this step,” he added.
Shehu also expressed concern over vandalism of power infrastructure, which he said remains a significant obstacle to stable electricity supply. He disclosed that security agencies had already arrested 11 suspects linked to such acts.
The JEDC official commended residents for improved bill payments, noting that the trend has already led to better services in the state. “Without the customers, we cannot operate. And without us, they need us for service delivery. It is a partnership, and we are determined to make it work,” he stated.
Anas Sadiq, JEDC’s Meter Asset Provider Desk Officer, confirmed that meter installations have begun in Plateau State, with Gombe scheduled to follow by the end of September.
Some customers, however, raised concerns over unresolved personal complaints. Dr Okezie Ejeagba, one attendee, lamented that his faulty meter issue had persisted for over two years. “I am not satisfied until I see my units,” he said.
