Sterling Bank celebrates zero downtime as ‘SeaBaas’ transactions exceed 2bn

Sterling Bank Ltd has marked the first anniversary of SeaBaas, its pioneering core banking system developed entirely in Africa.
In a statement on Wednesday, the bank’s Chief Executive, Abubakar Suleiman, announced that the platform had processed more than two billion transactions within 12 months of its launch.
Suleiman noted that SeaBaas has cut processing times by around 60 per cent and driven a 66 per cent rise in customer adoption, setting new standards for scale, efficiency, and reliability in African financial technology. He added that the system has powered key elements of Sterling’s digital ecosystem, including OneBank, SterlingPro, Switch, and Specta, while also enabling fintech integrations, agent banking networks, and third-party services.
“With zero downtime over 365 days of uninterrupted service, SeaBaas has demonstrated its strength as one of the most dependable financial platforms on the continent,” Suleiman stated. “SeaBaas represents proof of possibility. It shows that Africa can develop world-class technology, solve complex challenges locally, and achieve global reach.
“This milestone is a collective triumph for every Sterling colleague, our partners, and customers who trusted in our vision. SeaBaas reminds us that with bold ambition and courageous innovation, Africa’s potential is limitless. This is only the beginning,” he said.
Designed by Sterling Bank in collaboration with Peerless Software, KPMG, Bazara Technologies, Revent Technologies, and AppQuest Solutions, alongside the bank’s in-house engineering team, SeaBaas is more than a technological breakthrough. It has delivered substantial cost savings, freed resources for reinvestment, and accelerated financial inclusion across Nigeria’s economy.
