Property manager in court over alleged accommodation fraud

A property manager, Akintomiwa Akinyemi, 38,   who allegedly defrauded an accomodation seeker of N2,070,000, on Monday, appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan.

Akinyemi was charged with obtaining money under false pretence and theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp Adeshina Folaranmi told the court that the defendant committed the offences in February, 2026, at Akobo, Ibadan.

Folaranmi alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N2,070,000 from one Koyum Oladimeji, on the pretext of assisting him to secure an accommodation.

The Prosecutor alleged that the defendant also fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,270,000 from one Timileyin Eboda, under the guise of providing him a room, parlour and self contained apartment.

He said that the defendant, however, failed to do so and rather converted the money belonging to the complainants to his personal use.

The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 29, for hearing.
