Man, 25, docked over alleged impersonation

The police, on Wednesday, dragged a 25-year-old man, Onyekachi Simon, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged impersonation.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of impersonation and unlawful sale of medicine.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 15, at Ipao-Ekiti in Ikole-Ekiti Local Government Area.

He alleged that the defendant impersonated as a medical doctor, and unlawfully sold unfit medications to members of the community.

According to him, the police arrested the defendant while “combing” a bush at Ipao-Ekiti.

The prosecutor alleged that during investigation, the defendant told the police that he was a medical doctor giving treatment to the community.

He said that after investigation, the defendant again claimed to be an undergraduate student.

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 90 and 171(1)(3) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case till May 29, for hearing.
