President Tinubu expresses sympathy to Borno, reaffirms defeat of terrorist groups

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians and the nation’s security forces that the Federal Government remains committed to overcoming current security challenges. Speaking on Friday during an interfaith breaking-of-fast event at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President lauded the military’s dedication, insisting that the sacrifices made by brave servicemen and women would never be in vain.

Addressing members of the Armed Forces, President Tinubu commended their courage and professionalism in the face of ongoing threats from bandits and terrorists. He noted that their consistent efforts have been instrumental in degrading the operational capabilities of criminal groups across the country.

The President emphasized that his administration is fully committed to the welfare of frontline officers, promising continued investments in modern equipment, intelligence, and logistics to enhance their operational effectiveness. He acknowledged the personal toll service takes on personnel, particularly those separated from their families to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty.

Reflecting on the nation’s broader economic trajectory, President Tinubu thanked Nigerians for their resilience during the ongoing economic re-engineering process. He expressed optimism that the country has finally turned a corner, stating, “I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and those of fellow citizens are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel.”

During the event, the President also expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the government and people of Borno State following the recent terrorist attack in the region.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Oluwafemi Oluyode, who was represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, expressed appreciation for the administration’s support. He highlighted that recent presidential approvals, which include an upward review of salaries for members of the Armed Forces and enhanced allowances for the Brigade of Guards, have significantly boosted morale.

According to the military leadership, these approvals, which also extend to modern equipment procurement and the provision of decent accommodations, are vital to improving operational efficiency and sustaining the military's commitment to the fatherland.
