The Nigeria Police Force has commenced disciplinary proceedings against 167 senior officers, as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and enforce professional standards within the institution.

The exercise, currently underway at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is being handled by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), which is reviewing cases involving alleged breaches of conduct and other related offences.

The committee, a key internal mechanism of the police, is responsible for handling disciplinary matters concerning officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above. It is expected to examine each case thoroughly and make recommendations to the Police Service Commission for further action.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to discipline, integrity, and professionalism, stressing that any officer found culpable will face due process.

He noted that the ongoing proceedings form part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening internal control systems, promoting ethical conduct, and improving public trust in the police.

The move comes amid continued calls for greater accountability within the Force, with authorities emphasising that adherence to professional standards remains critical to effective policing.

The police leadership also reiterated its resolve to ensure that all personnel conduct themselves in line with established rules, as the disciplinary process continues.
