Kogi state Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has declared that the security of Kogi state is vital to national stability.
This is as the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, declaring that security remains his government’s top priority.
Speaking during the Kogi State Security Summit and Fund-Raising event held in the state capital, where he called for collective action to address emerging security threats.
He further declared that his administration would not negotiate with criminals, warning that those who threaten the peace will face the full force of the law.
He noted that safeguarding citizens is a sacred duty of the government, emphasizing that no meaningful development can occur without peace and stability.
According to Governor Ododo, evolving security challenges such as kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and cybercrime require modern, intelligence-driven responses.
He described Kogi as a strategic gateway between Northern and Southern Nigeria, stressing that its location, while beneficial for commerce, also exposes it to significant security risks.
He further observed that criminal networks now exploit forested areas, technology, and cross-border movements to evade detection, necessitating urgent and proactive measures.
The Governor highlighted that his administration has strengthened the state’s security architecture by providing operational vehicles, surveillance systems, drones, and improved communication tools.
He added that these interventions have begun to yield results, with a noticeable disruption of criminal activities across the state.
Governor Ododo also commended his predecessor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, for laying a solid foundation in security management.
The Governor acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the Federal Government’s focus on intelligence-led security and inter-agency collaboration has bolstered efforts at the state level.
The Governor praised security agencies, vigilantes, and local hunters for their contributions, describing their roles as critical to maintaining peace.
However, he stressed that the government cannot tackle insecurity alone, announcing the restructuring of the Kogi State Security Trust Fund to allow individuals and organizations to contribute to security efforts.
He urged investors and the business community to support the initiative, stating that a secure environment is essential for economic growth and sustainability.
He emphasized that contributions to security should be viewed as investments that protect businesses and promote long-term development.
