The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that armed bandits attacked Ifaki-Ekiti and surrounding communities, describing the claims as false, misleading, and capable of causing panic among residents.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the Command said the rumoured attack, which was alleged to have occurred on May 17, 2026, was the handiwork of mischief-makers and enemies of peace seeking to create unnecessary fear and tension in the state.

The statement explained that following the circulation of the report, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, immediately deployed tactical and intelligence operatives to Ifaki-Ekiti and adjoining communities to verify the claims and respond swiftly to any existing threats.

According to the police, findings from the security operation confirmed that no attack took place in Ifaki-Ekiti, schools, or any other part of the state, contrary to the claims widely shared online.

The Command reassured residents that security agencies remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding lives and property across Ekiti State.

The Police urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding and to continue with their normal activities, noting that additional security measures had been put in place around schools, public facilities, and other vulnerable locations across the state.

Meanwhile, the Command announced the successful rescue of Mrs. Ogunleye Grace, Vice Chairman of the Ilejemeje Local Government Area, who was kidnapped on May 20, 2026, by unidentified hoodlums.

The Police said the council official was rescued unhurt through a coordinated operation involving the police, the military, other security agencies, and local vigilante personnel, who mounted sustained pressure on the abductors during the rescue mission.

CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal has ordered a thorough investigation into the abduction to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and apprehend those responsible.

The Command also called on members of the public to continue providing useful information to security agencies to enhance safety and security across the state.
