Agatu Local Government Area, in Benue State has, in recent times, become a theatre of horrors, as Fulani Jihadists seem to have marked out communities in the local government for shooting practices. This time, it was Ikpele Community that was at the receiving end of the bloodbath that ensued on August 5, 2025.
According to an anonymous eyewitness who was in hiding while the carnage unfolded, the bloodthirsty Jihadists, numbering about 50 on motorcycles, stormed the community around 2:00 am in the early morning, announcing their arrivals with bloodcurdling “Allahu Akbar!” chants, shooting at any moving objects on sight. Indigenes were hacked down in their numbers, amongst which was an aged father to a local evangelist, Mr. Osadiaye Godson Uhunamure, who had only just recently returned from a missionary trip to Liberia, where he had been away for 2 years.

The eyewitness informed our correspondent that Mr. Osadiaye Godson Uhunamure, his mother and younger sister, were in his church, the Christ Emblem Bible Church, not far from his family house, engaging in a night vigil, when the Jihadists surrounded their house, broke in, shot and killed his father, Pa. Jonathan Uhunamure, on the spot. However, fortune smiled at Mr. Osadiaye Godson Uhunamure, his mother and his elder sister, as they sneaked out of the backdoor of the church, made for the bush, and their whereabouts, as at the time of filing this report, was not known to anyone.
The violence being wrecked by Fulanist Jihadists in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria has continued unchecked, as the security architectures of the country have appeared helpless in stemming the tides.
