President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The announcement was contained in a State House press release issued on Thursday, May 21, 2026, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Professor Aina will succeed the outgoing Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose successful two-term tenure is set to expire on July 31, 2026.
At 39 years old, turning 40 in July, Professor Aina is set to make history as the youngest Registrar to ever lead the nation’s apex tertiary admissions body, having previously established himself as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
His professional journey with JAMB comes full circle with this appointment, as he originally began his career with the Board during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, gaining the foundational insights into data-driven institutional processes and national admissions that have shaped his ongoing contributions to examination reform.
The incoming Registrar boasts a formidable academic and professional background operating at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional transformation for over 15 years.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, alongside an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, United Kingdom, complemented by the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
A certified member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Professor Aina has regularly advised federal and state governments on system design and digital transition.
He has also served as an ICT systems and examination integrity consultant to major educational bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).
According to the statement, President Tinubu expects the incoming Registrar to deploy his vast technological expertise and practical insights to further modernize the Board.
The Presidency has charged Professor Aina to build upon the institutional transparency and laudable milestones established by his predecessor, Professor Oloyede, and to propel the critical educational organization into a new era of digital efficiency.
