Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibadan have arrested a 10-man syndicate allegedly involved in impersonation and the large-scale forgery of official documents.

The Oyo State Police Command disclosed that the arrests followed actionable intelligence received on April 9, 2026, regarding the group’s activities in the Ogunpa area of the city.

Operatives from the Monitoring Unit carried out a swift, coordinated operation, leading to the apprehension of the suspects: Mumini Akanbi (62), Quadri Muhammed (31), Salami Tajudeen (50), Oladipupo Hammed (45), Oladipupo Taiwo (40), Olorunosebi Kazzeem (42), Fatai Akanni (54), Alamu Kazeem (60), Olalekan Afeez (42), and Alex Olanrewaju (64).

Police investigations revealed that the group specialized in forging official documents, stamps, and certificates belonging to various government agencies, financial institutions, and private organizations.

Items recovered during the operation included fake Police Character Certificates and stamps from the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Ogun State CID Eleweran Office, the Iyaganku Area Command, and several Divisional Police Officers’ offices. Additionally, stamps belonging to Oyo State Government ministries and various commercial banks were seized.

The Command stated that the suspects have confessed to their involvement and are currently assisting with ongoing investigations.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism, the Commissioner of Police also acknowledged the vital role of public cooperation and intelligence sharing in the operation’s success.

The police reiterated that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations and urged residents to process documents only through official channels to avoid fraud.
