Police declare man wanted over alleged documents
The police have intensified efforts to apprehend a suspect, Joseph Ehichioya Adavbie, a 35-year-old man,who has been officially declared wanted over his alleged possession of sensitive documents reportedly linked to prominent political office holders.
Adavbie, a native of Idumegbede Quarters in Iruekpen, Ekpoma, within Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, is being sought by law enforcement authorities following the emergence of documents believed to have connections with both a former Esan West Local Government Chairman and a former Governor of the state.
According to a statement released by the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was found in possession of the documents under circumstances that have raised serious concerns among security agencies.
The nature of the documents, as well as the potential implications of their contents, prompted authorities to launch a full-scale investigation to determine their authenticity, source, and intended use.
Police sources disclosed that efforts to invite the suspect for questioning were unsuccessful, as he reportedly went into hiding shortly after the matter came under investigation.
His failure to present himself to authorities, coupled with intelligence suggesting deliberate evasion, led to the decision to declare him wanted.
“The suspect is currently at large, and all efforts to locate and arrest him have so far proved abortive,” the statement noted. “He is hereby declared wanted, and members of the public are urged to assist security agencies with credible information that could lead to his arrest.”
The police further emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and forms part of broader efforts to safeguard public institutions and prevent the misuse of official or sensitive materials. Authorities also warned that anyone found aiding or harbouring the suspect would face legal consequences.
Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and promptly report any information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to the nearest police station or through established security communication channels.
The police assured that all information provided would be handled with utmost confidentiality.
Meanwhile, security has been heightened in parts of the state as operatives continue coordinated efforts to track down the suspect and unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged documents.
