Police, CSOs to train operatives for 2027 polls in Anambra

The Anambra Police Command says it has begun engagements with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) for the training of its personnel and operatives from other security agencies, ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Mr Nnanna Ama, disclosed this in a statement issued in Awka on Friday by the commnad’s Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

“The Anambra Police Command has intensified the command’s preparations for the 2027 General Elections and finalised discussions with CSOs on organising a refresher course for police personnel and other security agencies.

“The proposed course is designed to strengthen the professional capacity, operational preparedness and understanding of security personnel on their roles and responsibilities before, during and after electoral activities,” he said,” he stated.

Ama explained that the training would focus on professionalism, human rights, democratic policing, conflict prevention and management, crowd control and communication.

Other areas of the training, he stated, included community engagement, election security and the lawful, impartial and professional discharge of security responsibilities.

He explained that the initiative formed part of the command’s broader strategy to strengthen institutional preparedness, prevent election-related violence and ensure a safe and secure environment in which citizens could exercise their civic responsibilities, without fear or intimidation.

The CP emphasised the importance of continuous training and professional development for the police personnel.

He added that effective election security required personnel, who were not only operationally prepared but also properly grounded in the principles of professionalism, neutrality, respect for fundamental rights and accountability.
