Police arrest 10 over document forgery

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibadan have arrested a 10-man syndicate allegedly involved in impersonation and large-scale forgery of official documents.
The Oyo State Police Command disclosed this in a statement, noting that the arrests followed actionable intelligence received on April 9, 2026, about the activities of the group in the Ogunpa area of the city.


According to the Command, operatives of its Monitoring Unit swiftly carried out a coordinated operation, leading to the apprehension of the suspects identified as Mumini Akanbi (62), Quadri Muhammed (31), Salami Tajudeen (50), Oladipupo Hammed (45), Oladipupo Taiwo (40), Olorunosebi Kazzeem (42), Fatai Akanni (54), Alamu Kazeem (60), Olalekan Afeez (42), and Alex Olanrewaju (64).
Police investigations revealed that the group specialized in forging official documents, stamps, and certificates belonging to government agencies, financial institutions, and private organisations.
Items recovered during the operation include fake Police Character Certificates, stamps of the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ogun State CID Eleweran Office, Iyaganku Area Command, several Divisional Police Officer offices, as well as stamps of Oyo State Government ministries and commercial banks.
The Command stated that the suspects have confessed to their involvement and are currently assisting ongoing investigations.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, the Commissioner of Police also acknowledged the role of public cooperation and intelligence sharing in the success of the operation.
The police reiterated that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, while urging residents to always use official channels when processing documents to avoid falling victim to fraud.
The Command further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue collaborating with security agencies to sustain peace and security across Oyo State.
