The Plateau State Government has relaxed the curfew hours in Jos North Local Government Area, citing the relative peace being experienced in the area following the deadly attacks at Angwan Rukuba.
In a press release issued by the state government, the new curfew arrangement takes effect from Wednesday, Apr. 8, 2026. Under the revised schedule, residents of Jos North LGA are free to carry out their lawful activities between 6am and 6pm daily. The enforced curfew period remains from dusk to dawn, 6pm to 6am.
The relaxation represents a significant easing from the earlier 24-hour curfew that had been imposed on the area following the violent attacks that claimed lives and triggered widespread concern over security in the Plateau State capital.
Gov. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has directed all security agencies to strictly enforce the curfew during restricted hours to ensure the protection of lives and property and to sustain the gradual restoration of calm in the affected areas.
Residents have been advised to remain indoors during curfew hours, cooperate fully with security agencies, and share any useful information that could support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and order in the LGA.
The adjustment follows consultations between the state government and relevant security agencies, reflecting a cautious but positive assessment of the ground situation in Jos North. Authorities have, however, stopped short of lifting the curfew entirely, signalling that the security situation, while improved, remains under close monitoring.
The Angwan Rukuba attacks had prompted a swift federal and state response, including the deployment of troops under Operation Enduring Peace, a high-level security meeting convened by Pres. Bola Tinubu, and an earlier invitation extended to Gov. Mutfwang to deliberate with federal authorities on a coordinated path toward lasting peace in the region.
Residents are urged to take advantage of the relaxed hours responsibly and to avoid any actions that could reignite tensions or jeopardise the fragile calm currently being restored across Jos North.
