The Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Mr Peter Obi, has called on Anambra residents and political contestants to ensure a peaceful and transparent electoral process in the November 8, 2025, governorship election.
Speaking at his Agulu residence in Anaocha Local Government Area on Wednesday, Obi urged voters to exercise their democratic rights and encouraged political actors to respect the rule of law.
He stressed that the priority should be maintaining peace and security throughout the election.
Obi said, “My interest in this Anambra 2025 governorship election is a peaceful process before, during, and after the exercise. I want a free, fair, and peaceful election. This election is for Ndi-Anambra, and anyone who wins, wins for the development of the state.”
The former governor noted that all contestants, including Incumbent Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo (APGA), Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu (APC), and his party’s candidate, Chief George Moughalu (Labour Party), are friends, but he will vote for the candidate of his party.
Obi also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to uphold neutrality and professionalism.
INEC has declared full readiness for the governorship election, with about 24,000 ad hoc staff deployed across 5,718 wards and 540 accredited journalists covering the process.
The commission has implemented a comprehensive plan including logistics, technology, training, stakeholder engagement, and security coordination, with a mock accreditation exercise recently conducted across selected polling units in three senatorial districts.
According to INEC, 16 candidates from 16 political parties are contesting the governorship election, with the incumbent seeking reelection under APGA.
