LASG disburses ₦4.6bn welfare support to 11,991 vulnerable households‎

The Lagos State Government’s social safety net has hit a major milestone, with cumulative disbursements under the Eko Cares Financial Assistance Programme surpassing ₦4.6 billion, directly benefiting more than 11,991 households across the state.

This disclosure was made by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative, and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, during a media briefing at the Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

The multi-billion naira funding underscores the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s broader social protection strategy to cushion residents against prevailing economic hardships.

In the latest implementation cycle, the state government rolled out ₦2.13 billion to 3,301 beneficiaries to cover critical needs such as medical treatment, educational support, housing, and micro-business funding.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, personally spearheaded the latest disbursement exercise.

Beyond the cash injections, Dr. Tajudeen outlined other extensive welfare interventions funded by the state.

The Mother, Infant, and Child Development (MICHD) Programme has reached 8,595 pregnant women with healthcare and nutritional support since its inception in 2020. Over ₦641 million has been expended on these maternal interventions across Lagos’ six health districts, with 2,315 expectant mothers captured in the current phase alone to help drive up antenatal attendance and safe deliveries.

Complementing the financial and maternal health programs, the state government also distributed 20,000 food packs across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

The food drive provided essential nutrition to an estimated 100,000 residents, specifically targeting widows, senior citizens, and persons living with disabilities.

Tajudeen maintained that these multi-billion naira interventions underscore the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.

He reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to continually expand its social investment portfolio to strengthen community resilience and uplift disadvantaged groups across Lagos State.
