A political group loyal to former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing confidence in the leadership of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

The defection comes ahead of a grand rally scheduled for Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Igueben Palace in Igueben Local Government Area considered the political stronghold of Edo Central.

According to sources, the move is being described as “a call to greatness” and a united step toward progress and effective governance under the APC. The event will be hosted by Edo Central APC leader, Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe (Rtd), and is expected to attract stakeholders, youth groups, women associations, and party loyalists.

This latest defection follows Governor Okpebholo’s recent reception of former PDP lawmaker, Hon. Marcus Onobun, into the ruling party, signaling growing support for the APC in Edo State ahead of upcoming political contests.
