Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed a recent directive by Governor Monday Okpebholo asking him to obtain security clearance before visiting Edo State.

Speaking in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Thursday, Obi insisted that he does not need permission to visit any part of the country. “I’m used to receiving threats. I will go to Edo any time I want,” he told reporters.

Obi made the remarks during a visit to his alma mater, Christ The King College (CKC), where he donated N50 million on behalf of the old boys association to support the school’s management.

He urged Governor Okpebholo to focus on encouraging efforts that promote public institutions rather than issuing threats.

Obi was received at CKC by the Archbishop of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, alongside the school’s management and students.

Commending the school’s leadership, Obi praised the “phenomenal work” being done and revealed that he and some of his former classmates raised the funds to support ongoing development at the institution.

In his remarks, Archbishop Okeke commended Obi for his commitment to education and national development.
