The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on former Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, to set aside personal grievances and focus on restoring unity within the party.
The appeal follows Lamido’s recent interview, in which he criticised the party’s handling of its leadership crisis and referenced a pending court case regarding the matter.
Umar Sani, a close ally of the PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), responded to Lamido’s remarks, saying several of the former governor’s claims were inaccurate and needed clarification.
Sani said: “Sule Lamido stated that the party violated court directives during its national convention. This is incorrect. No court barred the PDP from holding the exercise.
The court only instructed that Lamido be allowed to participate in the contest after due verification. The party has already appealed this order at the Supreme Court.”
He added that another court in Ibadan explicitly authorised the party to conduct its convention, which produced duly elected national officers, contradicting Lamido’s claim that the PDP currently lacks legitimate leadership.
Sani urged Lamido to show maturity and prioritise the party’s cohesion over personal disputes.
“Sule Lamido is one of the PDP’s founding figures. At this crucial time, the party needs unity, not prolonged litigation,” he said. “If we continue to focus on court battles, victory will slip away from us.”
The PDP leadership encouraged Lamido to collaborate with Chairman Turaki, highlighting their long-standing cordial relationship and ability to steer the party away from internal conflict.
