…FRSC declares zero tolerance for bribery, corruption on Nigerian roads

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has issued a firm directive to motorists nationwide, warning them to refrain from offering bribes to officers and insisting that all fines must be paid directly into designated bank accounts.

This directive was contained in an official statement released on Tuesday in Abuja and signed by the FRSC Public Education Officer, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide.

Mohammed condemned any attempt by road users to offer money or gifts to patrol personnel, describing such acts as corruption that the Corps will no longer tolerate. He reiterated that the FRSC upholds a strict zero-tolerance stance on bribery and extortion, both from motorists and within its own ranks.

“Any motorist found trying to bribe FRSC personnel will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the FRSC Establishment Act of 2007,” the Corps Marshal stated.

He maintained that giving or accepting any form of inducement during official duties is a violation of the Corps’ ethics and operational procedures.

Mohammed further explained that penalties for traffic violations must be paid exclusively into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA), and not to individual officers.

He cautioned drivers against bypassing official procedures by attempting to bribe patrol officers, warning that such actions erode the integrity of road traffic law enforcement.

The Corps Marshal also issued a stern warning to FRSC operatives against soliciting or receiving bribes from motorists, stating that anyone found guilty would face strict disciplinary measures, including dismissal and legal prosecution.

Mohammed encouraged the public to report any FRSC personnel involved in bribery. Complaints can be lodged via email at info@frsc.gov.ng, through the FRSC Mobile App, or the Flag-It Anti-Corruption App.

Additionally, he provided the Corps’ official social media channels for the submission of complaints or evidence of misconduct: facebook.com/FRSCNigeria; x.com/FRSCNigeria;  instagram.com/FRSCNigeria;  youtube.com/FRSCNigeria.

Commending law-abiding citizens who report corrupt practices without resorting to violence, Mohammed called on all Nigerians to comply with traffic regulations and play their part in promoting safety on the nation’s roads.
