Ibrahim Gotan assumes office as new Osun State Police Commissioner

Mr Ibrahim Gotan has officially taken over as the new Commissioner of Police for Osun State, following the retirement of his predecessor, CP Mohammed Umar Abba.
Gotan, a seasoned police officer, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State. He was commissioned into the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (Cadet ASP).
A statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that CP Gotan assumed office on 28 May.
The statement outlined Gotan’s extensive career, which spans both domestic and international assignments. According to the release, “CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips, has served in various capacities across multiple states in the country. These include his posting to Borno State as Personal Assistant to the then Commissioner of Police, DIG Waheed Kazeem (rtd), and his role as Unit Commander in Ogoniland during the height of the crisis there.”
He also served as second-in-command at 4PMF Ibadan, as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in several divisions, and as 2i/c Operations in Taraba State. Internationally, Gotan was appointed as Nigeria Formed Police Unit (NFPU) Commander in Liberia on two separate occasions due to his exemplary service.
Described as a “thoroughbred professional,” Gotan has built a strong track record across critical departments within the Nigeria Police Force, including Administration, Operations and Investigations.
The statement added that the new Commissioner of Police enjoys football, travelling and polo. He is married and has children.
CP Gotan’s appointment is expected to bring continuity and professional leadership to policing in Osun State.
