No fewer than 150 members of the Accord Party in Ilie, Ward 11, Olorunda Local Government Area, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, pledging their support for the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji.
The defectors were received by leaders of the party at the Ward 11 APC Secretariat in Ilie, Olorunda Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of the Olorunda Area Council and APC leader in Ilie, Hon. Felicia Omolaoye, said the defection of opposition members to the APC was a clear indication that the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, enjoys widespread acceptance and is destined for victory in the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
She added that the reception accorded to the former Accord Party youth leader and other stakeholders reflected their confidence in Oyebamiji’s leadership qualities.
Omolaoye stated that the defection demonstrates that Oyebamiji’s candidacy is a divine project destined for victory.
She welcomed the Accord Party youth leader and other stakeholders, noting that they chose to join the APC after recognizing the superior leadership qualities of their gubernatorial candidate, whom they believe is the right person to lead Osun State.
Expressing delight over the wave of defections into the party across the state, the Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Government Area, Hon. Kunle Kudayisi, expressed confidence that the APC will record a landslide victory in the upcoming election.
Kudayisi noted that the growing momentum was a clear indication of the APC’s increasing popularity across the state, which significantly strengthens the party’s chances of winning.
He urged party supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding, stressing that the APC remains committed to an issue-based campaign.
Kudayisi expressed his excitement at receiving over 150 former Accord Party members, noting that this mass floor-crossing is mirrored across all wards in Olorunda and the entire state.
He emphasized that this development would make victory on August 15 much easier.
Describing the APC as a disciplined party that does not engage in violence or thuggery, he appealed to supporters to remain calm and prepare themselves to vote peacefully on election day.
Also speaking, the former Special Adviser to ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Rasaki Adeosun, described the event as a great development for the party’s prospects.
He commended the defectors for recognizing the need for a change in government and for expressing their confidence in the APC candidate.
Adeosun noted that it was highly gratifying to see members of the opposition collapsing their structures into the APC, leaving virtually nothing left of other political parties in Ward 11 of the Olorunda Local Government.
He concluded that the defectors took this decisive step because they are fully convinced by the quality of the candidate the APC has presented for the governorship seat.
The defection ceremony attracted numerous party leaders and members from across the local government area and the state at large.
