The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke for travelling abroad while the state grapples with mounting security concerns.

In a statement released on Saturday, the party’s State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, accused the governor of displaying a pattern of “persistent missteps and misgovernance” throughout his nearly three years in office. According to the APC, Adeleke’s conduct since assuming office in November 2022 has suggested a lack of preparedness and competence for governing a complex state like Osun.

The opposition party argued that many residents are already looking toward November 2026, when Adeleke’s tenure will end, claiming the governor appears more interested in the glamour of office than in fulfilling its responsibilities.

The APC expressed particular concern over Adeleke’s recent trip to Texas in the United States for a birthday celebration, noting that it came at a time when neighbouring Kwara State is battling heightened banditry, raising fears about regional security.

Drawing a comparison with President Bola Tinubu—who recently postponed a working visit to South Africa to address national security issues—the APC said Adeleke’s priorities were misplaced. The party further alleged that the governor had made at least six personal trips to the United States this year alone.

Additionally, the APC criticised the governor for neglecting local governance structures, highlighting that grassroots administration has been largely inactive for eight months. It also faulted his handling of the ongoing strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), which has kept courts in the state closed for more than two months.
