Ondo approves N1bn hospital fund, extends free health insurance to retirees

Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Ondo State Governor has approved a N1 billion Hospital Intervention Fund to modernize and expand healthcare facilities across Ondo State.

He also approved the full inclusion of Ondo State retirees in the Orange Health Insurance Scheme, under which they will now receive comprehensive healthcare coverage at no cost.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on the governor’s official X page on Monday.

“I am pleased to announce the approval of a ₦1 Billion Hospital Intervention Fund to modernize and expand healthcare facilities across the state. We have also approved the full inclusion of all Ondo State retirees in the Orange Health Insurance Scheme at no cost to them, ensuring they enjoy comprehensive healthcare coverage in retirement,” the governor said.

In addition, Ondo State has implemented the newly approved salary structure for health workers, in a move aimed at improving welfare, retaining skilled professionals, and strengthening the healthcare system.

He also said the administration remains focused on expanding investments in health infrastructure, recruitment of health personnel, wider health insurance coverage, and targeted support for vulnerable groups, with the goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage and ensuring that no citizen is denied healthcare due to financial limitations.
