Afrobeats artiste, Omah Lay, has released the official video for “Coping Mechanism,” a track from his latest album, Clarity of Mind, featuring his label signee, Elmah.
The visuals present a moody, minimalist aesthetic, with both artistes appearing in dark streetwear, while lyrics reflecting emotional vulnerability and connection are projected throughout the scenes.
The release has drawn attention not only for its artistic direction but also for Elmah’s activity on social media ahead of the video drop.
In the days leading up to the release, the singer posted cryptic messages, including “you’re not alone, you’re with me,” before unfollowing all accounts and updating her bio to read, “I realize I’m alone,” sparking curiosity among fans.
Clarity of Mind has recorded strong commercial performance, debuting with 16.7M streams in its first week in Nigeria and surpassing 230M streams globally.
The project adds to the momentum of Afrobeats on the global stage, alongside recent milestones such as Wizkid’s Morayo, which has crossed 500M streams.
Fans have also reflected on Omah Lay’s journey, highlighting his rise from humble beginnings to international recognition.
A user on X, @armanifeante, wrote: “This boy used to live in the trenches of Port Harcourt… Look at him now. Your dream is valid,” referencing the artiste’s early struggles and growth.
The release of “Coping Mechanism” further reinforces Omah Lay’s reputation for introspective music and emotionally driven storytelling, while also introducing Elmah as a rising voice within his label.
