Burna Boy, DJ Tunez nightclub clash sparks Afrobeats rivalry

A reported altercation between Afrobeats star Burna Boy and renowned DJ, DJ Tunez at a Lagos nightclub has ignited fresh tensions within Nigeria’s music industry, drawing in fellow heavyweight Wizkid and stirring widespread reactions online.
The incident, which reportedly occurred during DJ Tunez’s set, has since gone viral, with conflicting accounts from those involved and a flurry of reactions across social media platforms.
According to DJ Tunez, the altercation began when he was allegedly struck from behind while performing. Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the DJ accused Burna Boy of attacking him unexpectedly.
“First off… you hit me in the back of my head without me looking! That’s some sucka sh*t my boy!” he wrote.
Sources at the scene claimed that the DJ’s set featured a selection of songs associated with other Afrobeats stars, including Wizkid and Davido, which may have contributed to the tension. The situation reportedly escalated into a brief confrontation before security personnel intervened to restore order.
In response, Burna Boy addressed the incident in a viral Instagram Live video, denying claims that he acted with a group. He insisted that he acted alone and downplayed the severity of the altercation.
“No be 10 people beat DJ Tunez, na only me and na only two slaps I give am… I think say he go send squad. Na internet their own power dey,” he said.
The Grammy-winning artiste also appeared to take indirect shots at Wizkid, questioning his absence and mocking perceived online bravado.
Wizkid, however, responded with a series of posts on X, firing back at Burna Boy with sharp remarks that further fueled the growing feud.
The clash has since drawn reactions from industry stakeholders, including reports that the Nigerian DJ Association is reviewing the incident, with claims of a temporary restriction on Burna Boy’s music in DJ circuits pending further investigation.
The development has divided fans across social media, with supporters of the artists engaging in heated debates while memes and commentary continue to trend online.
