Zlatan Ibile recounts how his Parents rejected a house gift

Popular Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile has revealed that his parents once rejected a house he purchased for them in Lekki.

Speaking in a recent episode of the YACN podcast, the "Zanku" crooner shared that after gaining prominence in 2019, he bought a home for his parents in the highbrow Lagos neighborhood of Lekki.

However, they initially refused the gift because they were skeptical of the source of his wealth, which appeared sudden to them.

The singer explained that his parents found it difficult to believe he had acquired such an expensive mansion solely through musical earnings.

“When I blew up in 2019, I bought my first house in Lekki and decided to gift it to my parents. I called them on the phone and asked them to move in, but they were like, ‘A house? That’s not possible. Are you doing something else apart from music? How did you buy a house worth millions in the space of one year?’” he recalled.

Zlatan admitted that his parents’ suspicion made him feel hurt, especially since he was prioritizing their comfort only to have his integrity questioned.

He noted that his parents even requested seven days to pray over the matter before deciding whether or not to accept the offer.

To resolve the impasse, the rapper had to print his bank statements and present documented evidence of his music royalties and earnings. Only after seeing this proof did his parents accept the house.

Reflecting on the experience, Zlatan urged other parents to verify the sources of their children’s wealth before accepting flamboyant gifts from them.
