NUPRC Chief reaffirms commitment to gender inclusion in Nigeria’s energy sector

The Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan has pledged to deepen gender inclusion and female empowerment within the nation’s maritime and energy industries.

Delivering a keynote at the 5th anniversary of the Women in Maritime and Energy (WIME) Awards in Lagos, Eyesan reiterated her commitment to the cause.

She emphasized her commitment to amplifying advocacy and ensuring that gender-focused initiatives translate into tangible policy shifts across the sector.

While acknowledging gradual progress, the NUPRC Chief highlighted that women remain significantly underrepresented in upstream operations due to persisting structural and cultural barriers.

She noted that the NUPRC is aligning with Federal Government mandates to promote diversity in licensing, technical workforce participation, and broader stakeholder engagement.

Eyesan advocated for the implementation of innovative financial solutions, including gender-focused investment funds and dedicated financing windows.

She noted that establishing long-term frameworks is essential to supporting the growth of women-led enterprises and strengthening capacity development for women in technical roles.
