A delegation of Islamic scholars and community leaders from Northern Nigeria reportedly visited the Iranian Embassy in Abuja to offer formal condolences following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Khamenei was killed on February 28, 2026, during a joint U.S.-Israeli strike on his compound in Tehran.

The visit by the Nigerian delegation serves to convey sympathy to the government and people of Iran during their declared 40-day national mourning period.

Participants in the delegation stated that the visit was intended to demonstrate solidarity with Iran and to recognize the late Supreme Leader’s influence as a significant religious and political figure within the broader Muslim world.

The condolence visit highlights the longstanding religious and diplomatic connections between various Islamic organizations in Northern Nigeria and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

This gesture follows similar expressions of support in other parts of Northern Nigeria, where some groups have organized protests and mourning activities in response to the late leader’s death.
