Senator Omisore files lawsuit against APC in Osun state

Former Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has initiated legal action against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and others at the Federal High Court in Osogbo.
The suit, filed under case file FHC/OS/CS/261/2025 on March 2, 2026, comes amid ongoing political tensions within the party ahead of the state's governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026.
While the specific nature of the lawsuit has not been explicitly linked to the recent APC governorship primary, in which Senator Omisore was disqualified, the development has sparked significant reaction within state political circles.
The Acting Secretary of the Osun APC Elders’ Caucus (Igbimo Agba), Akin Omolaoye, expressed surprise at the news, stating that he had not been formally briefed on the legal action.
He noted that the caucus, led by Chairman Chief Sola Akinwunmi, had held fruitful and promising consultations with Senator Omisore in recent weeks aimed at fostering internal cohesion and ensuring a rancour-free environment within the party.
According to Omolaoye, Senator Omisore had provided assurances during those meetings that he had no intention of defecting to another political platform.
Because he has not been authorized to speak on the litigation, Omolaoye declined to offer further comments on the potential implications of the suit for the party’s stability. Meanwhile, the development has been widely discussed on social media, with some members of the opposition Accord Party in the state celebrating the move.
Senator Omisore’s move follows his disqualification by the APC Screening Committee in December 2025, which cited irregularities in the nomination process.
As the state approaches the August 2026 polls, this legal challenge introduces a new layer of uncertainty to the APC's internal political landscape.
