Residents of Nkpor community in Anambra State have reported a young man to the police following allegations regarding his involvement in same-sex relationships, which community members say violates both local traditions and the laws of Nigeria.

According to several residents, the individual identified as Mbakwe Chinedu, who was known to be living in the Nkpor area in 2014 became the subject of multiple complaints from members of the community. Local sources reported that concerns were raised after some residents claimed to have witnessed or heard about his alleged involvement in relationships with other men.

Community members said the issue caused tension and serious discussions among residents, as such behaviour is widely considered unacceptable within the cultural values of the area. Several concerned residents reportedly brought the matter to the attention of community leaders, who later advised that the case be reported to the police.

Following the complaints, the matter was taken to the Nkpor Divisional Police Station, where a report was filed requesting that authorities investigate the situation.

Community representatives stated that the decision to involve the police came after repeated reports and concerns from residents.

Some members of the community also stated that the individual had not been seen in the area since the matter became widely known, leading to speculation that he may have left the community due to fear of confrontation or legal consequences.

Police sources confirmed that a complaint had been received and that the authorities were interested in locating the individual in order to question him regarding the allegations reported by community members.

Residents have been advised that anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the individual should report to the nearest police station or inform local authorities.

The incident has sparked conversations within the community about cultural values, legal restrictions, and the responsibilities of residents to maintain the traditions and laws of the country.
