The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has declared that criminals attempting to escape the country will be apprehended, as advanced surveillance systems and inter-agency collaboration have significantly strengthened border security.

Comptroller of the NIS, Lagos State Command, Aliyu Akadri, issued the warning during a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday.

Akadri said the Federal Government had equipped the NIS with sophisticated technology to track movements in and out of the country, making it nearly impossible for fugitives to flee.

“Once we receive a court order that someone is wanted, we remain on high alert. With the new security gadgets now available to us, it’s extremely difficult for any criminal to escape—whether through official or illegal routes,” he said.

He added that any individual plotting to evade justice by fleeing the country should reconsider, warning that such attempts would be futile.

The immigration boss emphasized the importance of synergy between security agencies, noting that his visit aimed to deepen collaboration with the police in intelligence sharing and crime prevention.

“It is vital for the police and immigration to work hand in hand to ensure the security of Lagos State and the country as a whole. No agency can handle national security alone,” Akadri stated.

He reiterated that all security agencies are united in their mission to protect the nation and must continue working together to enhance public safety.

In response, Commissioner Jimoh welcomed the NIS delegation and commended the longstanding cooperation between both agencies. He assured that the partnership would continue to grow stronger for improved national security outcomes.

“Your visit is a reflection of the cordial relationship we have enjoyed over the years. We will continue to work together to ensure that Lagos remains safe for residents and visitors alike,” he said.

Jimoh emphasized that inter-agency coordination will remain a top priority to ensure effective service delivery and nationwide security.
