Nigeria’s ambition to scale crude oil production to three million barrels per day took center stage at the 2026 Oloibiri Lecture and Energy Forum, where industry leaders called for a smarter, technology-driven approach to energy development.
Speaking at the event held at the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) headquarters in Abuja, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, emphasized the urgent need to align digital innovation, capital investment, and policy frameworks to unlock optimal performance across Nigeria’s oil and gas assets.

Represented by the Executive Vice President, Upstream, Udy Ntia, the GCEO noted that achieving the production target requires a deliberate focus on efficiency, operational intelligence, and asset security rather than just volume expansion. He stressed that integrating advanced technologies into upstream operations would enhance decision-making, reduce downtime, and maximize output.

The forum, organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), brought together key stakeholders to examine Nigeria’s transition from traditional production methods to more intelligent, data-driven systems. Discussions highlighted the importance of sustained investment and regulatory clarity in attracting both local and international capital to the sector.
In recognition of his contributions to the transformation of Nigeria’s energy industry, Ojulari was honored with the SPE Senior Industry Ambassador Legacy of Leadership Award. The recognition underscores his role in steering strategic reforms and fostering innovation within the national oil company.
The event reinforced a clear message: Nigeria’s journey to higher production levels depends on how effectively the country harnesses technology, strengthens policy direction, and builds investor confidence in an evolving global energy landscape.
