The President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku, has praised Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his unwavering commitment to people-focused initiatives and inclusive governance.
The commendation came during an inspection visit by the NIPR Governing Council on Tuesday to evaluate the governor’s suitability for investiture as a Patron of the Institute.
In a statement signed by Mustapha Muhammad, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the Council commended the state’s massive investment in infrastructure renewal, community development, and human capital advancement.
During the visit—organised in collaboration with the Office of the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa—the delegation inspected ongoing projects including the Dan Agundi Flyover, Bulbula Erosion Control Project, and the Gwarzo Garment Centre.
At the Dan Agundi Flyover, Dr. Neliaku expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and pledged to return for the project’s inauguration. He said the flyover, when completed, would ease traffic and enhance urban mobility.
The NIPR team, which included Commissioner of Works Engr. Marwan Ahmad, also inspected the multi-billion-naira Bulbula Erosion Control Project aimed at addressing environmental degradation in Nassarawa Local Government Area.
Governor Yusuf’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, explained that the project would improve access to healthcare and education while curbing youth-related social vices such as drug abuse.
At Kwankwasiyya City, the Managing Director of the Kano Housing Corporation, Alhaji Abdullahi Rab’u, said over 500 housing units had been completed, adding that occupants were expected to fulfil their financial obligations or risk revocation.
The team also visited the Gwarzo Garment Centre, where over 100 youths are being trained in tailoring and garment production, and later inspected a 6-megawatt power plant nearing completion in Challawa/Goje Dama, Karaye Local Government Area.
Speaking with journalists, Dr. Neliaku said Governor Yusuf’s developmental approach reflected the true spirit of public relations — building trust and strengthening relationships between leaders and citizens.
“We are immensely impressed by the governor’s dedication to projects that directly impact citizens and make them active participants in the state’s progress,” he said.
He added that the NIPR Council would consider the inspection findings before the governor’s formal investiture as Patron, noting that the visit demonstrated the Institute’s resolve to honour leaders who promote transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement.
