Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has conveyed heartfelt condolences over the devastating floods that swept through Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas of Adamawa State, resulting in loss of lives, widespread destruction of property, and displacement of residents.

In a statement personally signed and released to journalists in Ilorin on Monday, Governor AbdulRazaq extended the sympathies of the entire Forum to the government and people of Adamawa, encouraging them to remain resilient in the wake of the disaster.

“The Nigeria Governors’ Forum stands firmly with the government and good people of Adamawa State at this difficult time. We encourage residents to view this as one of life’s many trials that will eventually pass,” the statement read.

Governor AbdulRazaq reaffirmed the NGF’s solidarity with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, commending the Adamawa State Government for coordinating emergency efforts to mitigate the impact of the floods.

He also lauded the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force for their rapid deployment of marine units in response to the state government’s request for federal intervention.

“This collaboration between security agencies and the state government exemplifies the type of emergency response we must sustain in critical situations. Protecting lives and ensuring the safety of our people must always take precedence,” he noted.

The NGF Chairman assured Governor Fintiri of the Forum’s readiness to extend further assistance and partner with humanitarian and disaster management agencies to deliver relief to victims and support the rebuilding of affected communities.

“This is a natural disaster; there is no room for blame. Our focus must be on investing in preventive infrastructure, raising environmental awareness, and strengthening coordination among stakeholders to reduce the impact of future events,” he stressed.

Governor AbdulRazaq called for comprehensive, long-term measures, including early warning systems and improved drainage, to minimise the devastation of flood disasters in Nigeria.
