The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) has dismissed claims by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, that the North has endorsed the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) as its preferred opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement released Sunday, NEYGA spokesman Ibrahim Musa described Lawal’s assertion as a “fabrication,” urging Nigerians to disregard what he termed an undemocratic narrative.
Lawal, now an ADC chieftain, had told journalists that the National Political Consultative Group (North) had settled on the ADC during a meeting in Abuja. However, NEYGA refuted the claim, saying such decisions cannot be made without wide-ranging consultations.
“The North is not a political pawn to be manipulated by a select few,” the group said, insisting that any political alignment must involve traditional rulers, youth leaders, and other regional stakeholders.
Musa warned against political opportunism, stating that the region would not be coerced into another miscalculated political alliance that does not reflect the collective will of its people.
