The District Head of Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Alhaji Muhammad Aminu-Idris, says the planned 7.5MVA substation by Niger Delta Power Holding Company Ltd. will address electricity shortfalls in the community.
The project includes two kilometres of 11kV power lines and 1.5 kilometres of 33kV lines to strengthen electricity distribution in the community.
The NDPHC disclosed this in a report published on its website on Oct. 25, stating that the groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held on Oct. 23.
The District Head said the project would help address inadequate electricity supply in the rapidly growing community.
Idris, who spoke with newsmen in Rigasa, said the existing substation was constructed about 20 years ago and could no longer adequately serve the town’s growing population.
“Rigasa has developed more than two or three times its size when the existing substation was constructed.
“Currently, the power being supplied and distributed in Rigasa is quite inadequate, and the network is very poor,” he said.
According to him, the community approached NDPHC to provide an additional substation to complement the existing facility.
He said President Bola Tinubu had approved the project, adding that the groundbreaking ceremony marked an important step towards improving electricity supply in the area.
Idris expressed optimism that the new substation would help address the shortfall in electricity supply, given the large population of Rigasa.
He said the community was in contact with NDPHC and expected the contractor to commence work soon.
The district head added that the project would involve the installation of transformers and other infrastructure to support electricity distribution.
He expressed hope that the project would improve electricity supply to residents and businesses in Rigasa.
