The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has unveiled a digital reporting system aimed at centralising sustainability data across its operations.
The company announced the initiatives to mark World Sustainability Day 2026, describing the new platform, NNPC Stream, as its Sustainability Data Management and Reporting System.
According to NNPC, the system brings sustainability information into one place to support data tracking and reporting across the company.
The platform could support the monitoring of the company’s environmental, social and governance performance, including progress towards its emissions reduction commitments, depending on the indicators and operational data incorporated into the system.
NNPC also opened its Sustainability Champions Network to employees interested in participating in sustainability activities across its operations. The network is intended to encourage wider staff involvement in the company’s sustainability agenda.
The initiatives come as NNPC pursues its sustainability strategy under the theme “Action Not Words”, with priorities spanning emissions reduction, operational efficiency, environmental protection and community development.
The company has outlined a net-zero pathway towards 2050, with near-term priorities including reducing methane emissions, eliminating routine gas flaring and improving operational efficiency.
NNPC’s sustainability reporting has also highlighted activities such as tree planting, compressed natural gas infrastructure development and community health programmes.
The introduction of a centralised reporting system could provide a framework for monitoring sustainability indicators across its businesses. However, the company has not disclosed in the announcement the specific indicators covered by NNPC Stream, its implementation timeline or whether the data will be made publicly accessible.
Further details on the platform’s coverage and reporting arrangements would help establish how it will support the company’s sustainability commitments.
