…Threaten indefinite strike if demands are ignored
Clinical lecturers at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have issued a 21-day ultimatum to the university management over its continued failure to implement the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).
Operating under the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), the lecturers condemned the persistent delay, describing it as intolerable and accusing the university leadership of neglecting their concerns.
In a statement jointly signed by the MDCAN Chairman, Dr Oluwatosin Ilori, and General Secretary, Dr Abraham Akinbola, the lecturers expressed frustration with what they described as the university’s “deafening silence” on their remuneration demands.
“It is disheartening that LAUTECH remains the only university in South-West Nigeria yet to implement CONMESS. Despite several interventions and the suspension of our strike three months ago, nothing has changed,” the statement read.
The group further alleged that Vice-Chancellor Professor Rasaq Kalilu had previously pledged to address the matter, but had yet to take tangible steps toward resolving the issue.
They warned that failure to meet their demands by the end of July would compel them to initiate an indefinite strike, potentially crippling medical education and clinical services in the institution.
MDCAN appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde and other influential stakeholders to intervene promptly to prevent a total breakdown of operations within the university’s College of Health Sciences.
