The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has launched its 2025 Safety Sensitisation Programme with the distribution of life jackets across key jetties and riverine communities in Lagos.
LASWA General Manager, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said the initiative is aimed at enhancing safety and boosting public confidence in water transport. As part of the programme, LASWA officers conducted live demonstrations, safety talks, and handed out certified life jackets at jetties including Falomo, Ijede, Sangotedo, Badore, Ito-Omu, Tarzan, and Baiyeku.
The sensitisation campaign focused on life jacket usage, emergency procedures, and adherence to LASWA’s mandatory safety protocols. It also reinforced the agency’s “No Life Jacket, No Boarding” policy with the distribution of branded safety gear, educational leaflets, and souvenirs.
Emmanuel noted the effort is especially crucial during the rainy season, when water travel risks increase due to high tides and poor visibility. He said the programme aims to reduce boat mishaps through community engagement and accessible safety tools.
Passengers and local stakeholders commended LASWA’s continued presence in underserved riverine areas and its commitment to waterway safety.
