The Kwara State Government has commended MTN Nigeria for donating Lenovo learning tablets to selected secondary schools across the state’s three senatorial districts, describing the initiative as a timely boost to digital education.

The donation, facilitated through the Office of the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, is part of a national project aimed at enhancing digital learning and improving the quality of teaching and education delivery across the country.

At the handover ceremony held in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, called on students and school administrators to put the devices to meaningful use and support the state’s vision of advancing digital literacy.

“These tablets are not just devices; they are tools for transformation. I encourage every beneficiary to use them wisely to support our collective ambition for a globally competitive education system,” Dr Olohungbebe said.

He expressed gratitude to MTN Nigeria for including Kwara schools in the initiative, saying the donation would significantly enhance the learning environment, particularly in rural communities.

“This support will, without doubt, provide our students, especially those in the countryside, with the opportunity to access digital knowledge and bridge the learning gap,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, MTN’s Government Relations Officer, Mr Andy Esun, said the donation forms part of a broader effort to modernise secondary school education across Nigeria. He said the programme is spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President with the aim of empowering the next generation through technology.

“We are committed to extending this initiative to all corners of the country to ensure no child is left behind,” Esun stated. “Education is the vehicle for national development, and our investment in this sector reflects our belief in Nigeria’s future.”

Esun also praised Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his unwavering commitment to education reform, describing the administration’s efforts as foundational for the state’s long-term development.

“Any government that prioritises education is laying the groundwork for a prosperous future,” he said.

A total of eighty schools benefitted from the donation, including Government High School, Adeta; Oke-Ode Unity Secondary School, Oke-Ode; Patigi Secondary School, Patigi; Government Secondary School, Kaiama; Progressive Secondary School B, Ilorin; Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran; Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin; and Moje High School, Erinle.
