In a renewed push to protect public health and bolster environmental standards in Kwara State, the State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has launched a series of inspection exercises across Ilorin, the state capital.
The exercise, led by Mr Aminullahi Taiye AbdulRahaman, Head of the Hotels Department, was carried out in collaboration with the Head of the Food Department, Hajia Fatimoh Abdullahi. Both officials oversaw assessments of hotels, restaurants, and food canteens to evaluate hygiene conditions and adherence to environmental regulations.
During the visits, the agency identified several establishments that fell short of acceptable hygiene standards. These businesses were issued abatement notices with instructions to promptly address the infractions in order to protect public health and maintain environmental integrity.
KWEPA’s General Manager, Hon Jide Aina, commended the departments for their proactive engagement. He explained that the ongoing inspections serve a dual purpose, enforcement and public sensitisation, particularly for stakeholders in the hospitality and food industries.
“This initiative forms part of KWEPA’s wider commitment to supporting Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s ‘Keep Kwara Clean’ agenda, which has positioned Kwara among the cleanest states in Nigeria, and the foremost in Northern Nigeria,” Aina said.
He cautioned that any continued disregard for environmental and sanitary standards would attract penalties as stipulated by law.
KWEPA restated its resolve to sustain routine monitoring, public enlightenment, and strategic enforcement aimed at maintaining a healthier and more environmentally responsible state for all residents.
