A Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has officially debunked allegations suggesting that President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are orchestrating the legal challenges currently fracturing the party.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Lagos, the NNPP National Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, clarified that the internal turmoil and ongoing litigations are the direct consequences of Rabiu Kwankwaso’s attempts to exert total control over the party’s structures.
Olaposi dismissed the claims made by the Kwankwaso-led faction as lazy and empty blackmail, asserting that the crisis was birthed by the former presidential candidate’s move to hijack the very platform that provided him a ticket in the 2023 elections.
According to the National Secretary, the persistent court battles and the subsequent wave of defections are self-inflicted wounds caused by a group that has already been expelled from the party.
He questioned the logic of blaming the Presidency for internal power struggles, noting that Kwankwaso’s overbearing actions alone pushed members toward other political organizations.
In a move to consolidate the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, Olaposi extended an olive branch to those who decamped due to the instability, urging them to return to the fold. He reminded members that the 2025 national convention in Lagos had already established a policy where loyalty to the party would be rewarded with automatic tickets for future contests.
The party is now looking toward a digital future, emphasizing the commencement of an e-registration exercise for members in strict accordance with INEC guidelines.
Olaposi noted that the NNPP is prioritizing the strengthening of its human structure to ensure a competitive showing in the next electoral cycle.
Defining the NNPP as a sister political party to all other registered entities, he concluded that the organization’s mission is focused on national service rather than partisan hostility, maintaining that power ultimately belongs to God and should be used solely for the benefit of the Nigerian people.
