Former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has hailed the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu for ordering a fresh probe into the 2019 abduction of social critic and academic Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata.

The IGP’s directives comes on the heels of testimony from a former aide to a former state governor, who alleged that specific police officers claimed responsibility for Dadiyata’s disappearance in Kaduna nearly seven years ago.

Reacting in a post on X, Kwankwaso praised the police leadership for what he described as a decisive and long-overdue intervention.

He noted that he and his associates have consistently advocated for justice since the activist was snatched from his residence in August 2019, expressing optimism that the new probe would finally pierce the veil of silence surrounding the case.

While acknowledging the progress, the former governor laid out specific expectations for the police and the federal government to ensure the integrity of the investigation.

He urged the Inspector General to place the individuals named in the recent testimony under close surveillance to prevent them from interfering with the investigation or fleeing.

He also called on the government to provide adequate compensation to Dadiyata, should he be found alive, and to his family, citing the immense trauma and suffering they have endured for over half a decade.

The NDC Chieftain also singled out Barrister Abba Hikima Fagge for his pivotal legal role in bringing these new allegations to light.

Kwankwaso further extended his gratitude to the general public, stating that their sustained advocacy and resilience were instrumental in preventing the case from being buried.
