Dickson dismisses NDC de-registration rumors

Senator Seriake Dickson, the former Governor of Bayelsa State and a key leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has described as propaganda rumours at destabilizing the newly formed opposition party.
Speaking today at the NDC national convention, Senator Dickson addressed circulating rumors regarding the party’s legal standing and its relationship with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He denied claims that the party is facing de-registration or active litigation.
Dickson dismissed reports of a legal battle over the party’s existence, asserting that the NDC remains the party for Nigerians.
He described the narrative of pending court cases as a smear campaign designed to intimidate high-profile political figures from joining the movement.
“Contrary to propaganda, there is no appeal in any court of INEC de-registering our party. There is no pending litigation whatsoever against the NDC in any court of justice in Nigeria. They don’t want the big names here to be here today; that’s why you see all those propaganda,” Dickson said.
The Senator also used the platform to send a direct message to the electoral umpire.
He urged INEC to foster an environment where opposition parties can grow and resolve internal matters without external interference, emphasizing that a robust multi-party system is essential for Nigeria’s democratic health.
“We urge INEC to allow all opposition parties to thrive well and resolve their disputes. We need strong parties in opposition,” he said.
