Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched a full investigation into the alleged involvement of the Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Namadi, in the controversial bail of suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu. The probe follows public outrage after documents surfaced linking the commissioner to the suspect’s court-ordered release.

In response, Governor Yusuf constituted a special investigative committee led by Barrister Aminu Hussain, his Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters. Other members include legal practitioners, civil society representatives, and a retired military officer, with Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota appointed as the committee secretary. The panel has been tasked with uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the bail and recommending immediate disciplinary or legal action.

Governor Yusuf, in a statement by his spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, expressed serious concern over the issue and reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for drug-related crimes and other social vices. He pledged that the matter would be handled transparently and decisively.

Commissioner Namadi initially stood as surety for Dan Wawu to meet bail conditions but later withdrew, citing concerns over his personal reputation and public perception. In his defense, Namadi stated that his action was not driven by any ill intent and that he acted within the bounds of the law.

The investigation marks a critical moment for the Yusuf administration as it seeks to reinforce public trust and crack down on any perceived leniency toward criminal activity within government circles.
