It’s your duty to provide metres, transformers, other assets – NERC charges Discos

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has charged the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC of its responsibility to provide meters, transformers and other assets for consumers.

NERC’s Commissioner for Consumers Affairs, Aisha Mahmud made this disclosure at the opening session of NERC, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) Customer Complaint Resolution Meeting’ in Abuja on Wednesday.

She insisted that it is the duty of distribution companies, DisCos to issue consumers meter in any circumstance.

She said, “It was our duty to tell them that it is their right to get a meter as Discos are not doing you any favour to issue you a meter.”

Aisha Mahmud added that the commission will not relent in educating consumers on their rights.

On his part, the Managing Director of AEDC, Adeoye Fadeyibi, who was represented by the Head, Regulatory and Government Relation, Olajumoke Delano reiterated that the company is committed to resolving all consumers complaints.

NERC is empowered by the Electric Power Sector Reform (EPSR) Act 2005 to regulate Nigerian power industry.
