Radio Lagos, Eko FM commission solar power system for uninterrupted broadcasting

The General Manager of Radio Lagos and Eko FM, Jide Lawal, has said the installation of a solar power system will usher the stations into a new era of energy independence and uninterrupted broadcasting.
Lawal made the remark during the official commissioning of the solar power system at the station’s premises in Agidingbi, Ikeja, an initiative aimed at addressing electricity challenges and ensuring continuous transmission of programmes.
According to him, the project represents a major milestone in the station’s commitment to delivering reliable information, entertainment, and community engagement to listeners round the clock.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our journey as a radio station,” he said.
He explained that the initiative reflects the station’s drive toward innovation and environmentally sustainable broadcasting.
Lawal noted that the solar system would guarantee uninterrupted airing of programmes and news updates, even during power outages.
“From this moment, Radio Lagos/Eko FM will be powered by clean, renewable energy, reducing our carbon footprint, lowering operational costs, and ensuring that even during the toughest grid challenges, our programmes, such as Ojutaye, TBS, Delelayo, O’Connet, among others, continue to reach our listeners without interruption,” he added.
The General Manager also appreciated the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for supporting the project.
“I say a very big thank you to Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, who believed in this vision and made it a reality,” he said.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotosho, said the state government remains committed to transitioning to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
He noted that the global shift toward digital and renewable solutions makes it imperative for institutions to adapt in order to remain relevant.
Omotosho, however, advised the management and staff of the stations to make judicious use of the solar system.
He urged them not to treat the initiative as a mere ceremonial project but to maximise its benefits, particularly by redirecting funds previously spent on fuel toward other developmental needs.
