Imole Campaign Council accuses Osun CP, Wole Oke of raising false alarm over alleged murder attempt

The Imole Campaign Council has accused the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, and Hon. Wole Oke of allegedly raising a false alarm to disrupt the peace in the state.

Addressing newsmen in Osogbo on Sunday, the spokesperson for the TICC, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the Osun State Police Command’s claim regarding the alleged attempted murder of the member representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Hon. Wole Oke, contradicts the confession made by the suspect.

Olajengbesi said the development reinforces the long-held position that innocent people and leaders of the Accord Party were deliberately targeted for political reasons.

He demanded that the Commissioner of Police immediately release the complete, unedited confessional statements and all video recordings obtained from the suspects.

He called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu and the Police Service Commission to immediately intervene, order an independent review of the entire investigation.

According to him, “The Imole Campaign Council is compelled to address the public following the emergence of a video evidence that completely exposes the false narrative surrounding the purported assassination attempt on one Hon Wole Oke, the AMBO Campaign DG.”

“The video raises fundamental questions about the integrity of the investigation conducted by the Osun State Police Command under the watch of Mr Ibrahim Gotan, the Osun State Commissioner of Police. It contradicts the public claims made during the parade of the suspects and further strengthens our long-held position that innocent people and leaders of the Accord were deliberately targeted for political reasons.”

“The Police Command must also explain why it publicly claimed that influential individuals were mentioned in the alleged plot while withholding the actual confessional statements from Nigerians. This selective disclosure has seriously undermined public confidence in the neutrality and professionalism of the police.”

“If the Commissioner of Police fails to make these materials public, Nigerians will be left with no choice than to conclude that the Osun State Police Commissioner has allowed himself to be used in a politically motivated attempt to smear innocent citizens and manipulate public opinion, with a view to achieving further sinister motive.”

“We call on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu and the Police Service Commission to immediately intervene, order an independent review of the entire investigation, and ensure that any officer found to have compromised the integrity of the Force is held accountable.”

“The Imole Campaign Council remains committed to peaceful, issue-based politics and will continue to resist every attempt to weaponise state institutions against political opponents.”

“With this video evidence of the confessional statement of the purported suspect in the police custody, made available by spirited and conscientious Nigerians, The truth has begun to emerge, and we will resist any manipulative effort to suppress it,” he said.
